Something old and something new...

After school drop off this morning, my little man and I headed out to my mums for the day. I was just going over for a bit of lunch and a chat, something we do most mondays. We have coffee and mint slice biscuits (always mint slice no matter what), flick through magazines, chat about whatever, visit her chooks for some eggs, visit her garden for some herbs and avocados. Its a routine we have down pat...

Today mum gave me a couple of things of mine that she had been keeping in her china cabinet ever since I moved out of home. There was an antique plate that I got off my Aunty for my 10th birthday (at the time I was so disappointed because I wanted a book!), a knife that was given to me as part of a set when I was a baby and is all that remains and a gorgeous cup and saucer that I got from an antique shop when I was about 13. I loved that cup and saucer so much I saved up my pocket money for weeks to be able to buy it. I used to go in every week to make sure it was still there...

Gosh I still love that cup and saucer... While getting these things out we went onto the topic of photos and newspaper clipping. So mum got out a box of them. It was so wonderful looking back at pictures of my Nan and Pa when they were young, my mum as a child and a very cute picture of myself with Santa! I especially loved looking at the newspaper clippings of my mum in her modelling days, she was 20 and had 2 kids already and she looked amazing. It made me want to know more about what she was like back then, not just the mum that I have known...

In amongst the photos and newspaper clippings was something my oldest sister made for me that used to hang in my room as a child. I had completely forgotten about it, but the moment I saw it I remembered how I used to look up at it on my wall and it always made me feel happy... Something so simple, but it had so much meaning to me...
I was nice remembering happy moments and feelings from my childhood... And taking those treasures back to my home and promising my little girl I would reframe and hang the tapestry in her room, it simply made me feel good...

Oh and the fresh herbs, eggs and avocados made me happy too!!
