_________________________________________________

Hi everyone!  My name is Summer and I am Munchie's Mama.  To be fair I am also Dylie Bear's Mama, but Munchie came first so Dylie is out of luck until I start business #2.  I want to send a big thank you to Em for inviting me to be a guest on her super amazing blog, which I love!  I thought I would share my super secret chocolate peanut butter cupcake recipe...but I really wanted to give you a little piece of me instead.  Maybe I can share my recipe in the future {wink wink}!  There is a giveaway at the end so stay with me, it's going to be a long one.

 Here is a peek at my little family, whom I adore.  Isn't my hubby a fox?!  Okay, on with the show...

Last week we took our annual family vacation to Lake Havasu with my hubby's family.  Lake Havasu holds a very dear place in my heart.  Growing up my parents would take us to the lake almost every weekend. I have more memories than I can count of those weekends together as a family.  Thinking about them makes me smile, I am so grateful to have them.  It's really important to me that Gavin and Dylan have the opportunity to make those memories now.

Some of my most vivid memories are of all the work my mom did before, during, and after those trips.  As a kid I didn't really think twice about all that work, my brother and I were busy hiding or swimming so we didn't have to help out.  We were kind of bratty that way.

As I was preparing for our first trip as a family of four, these images of my mother were so vivid.  I remember trying to stay up with my mom as she did laundry, packed food, made sure we had everything we could possibly need.  I never was able to stay up late enough to see her go to bed.  I now realized as I was doing laundry and packing ALLLLLLLLLL the million items you need for 2 children under 2 that she infact never even went to sleep those nights before our big trips.

 A flat screen TV + his own room + Nick Jr. on all day = one happy boy {don't judge me, mama needed a little vacation too}

I remember my mom doing her duties as a good co-pilot and making sure my dad had his Flying J cup filled at all times while trying to keep us kids from clawing each other to death.  She climbed over those Chevy Suburban with the greatest of ease to get things out of the very back for us.  I too found myself jumping from front seat to back seat to tend to Lennie and the kids.  The days of falling sleeping when we got on the freeway and waking up in Havasu were clearly over for me.

 Munchie and Dada

If we were at camp she was usually in the kitchen.  She was either cooking, cleaning, or packing for our daily outings while we played king of the mountain on a huge raft, had underwater handstand contests, or played in the arcade.  I didn't get a sunburn this trip, and that's because I only saw 2-3 hours of sunshine a day.  The other hours were spent helping in the kitchen, nursing a baby, keeping the other baby out of the toilets, and picking up after my 3 boys.

Dylie and Dada

When we got home from a trip as a kid the first thing we would do is drop our bags at the top of the stairs and head outside to go play with our friends.  My mom on the other hand didn't take a nap, she didnt' sit down to catch up on her T.V. watching, she was doing laundry, unpacking, and putting food away.

 Our one and only family picture...mama was always behind the camera.  Glad I was able to document this new face that Gav started...he did it all day long

This trip really opened my eyes to all the hard work and sacrifice that my mother had put into all those weekend trips we took as a child.  It wasn't much of a vacation for her, there wasn't much R & R.  But she did it every weekend without one complaint, because she loved us and knew how important these trips would be for my brother and me.  I will forever be grateful for those sacrifices she made and now I will do the same for my children.  Not because as the mother it is my duty, but because I love my children and know that the memories made on these trips will stay with them forever. And someday they will do the same for their families.

And now to the good stuff!
